GME PRIVACY COLLECTION NOTICE AND ASSOCIATED CONSENT (RECRUITMENT)
If you are reading this, then you are considering responding to a job advertisement for prospective employment with or engagement by GME Pty Ltd ACN 000 346 814 (GME).
GME (also referred to as "us", "our" or "we" in this document) is one of Australia’s largest manufacturers and wholesalers of quality radio communications products with a network of authorised dealers and service agents around the globe. GME is passionate about investing in its team members and is constantly striving to offer a workplace experience like no other.
For us to successfully undertake our functions and activities, it is vital that we recruit team members who are suitably qualified and experienced, legally entitled to work for us in Australia and who are trustworthy, responsible and considered a good cultural fit for our business, and so we undertake pre-employment and pre-engagement screening of job candidates aimed at assessing these matters.
As part of our screening processes, we may collect from job candidates like you (either directly from you or through third parties, such as recruitment agencies, businesses that undertake screening (including medical assessments) or background checks, and referees):
1. As an initial step, we may collect:
(a) information you supply to us or a third party in answer to the job advertisement as part of your application, including any information you supply online (including via email);
(b) your resume or curriculum vitae, including your employment history and your educational qualifications;
(c) information as to why you say you are suitable for, and capable of performing, the role you applied for or the services required;
(d) your full name;
(e) contact information, such as your postal address, email address and telephone contact numbers.
2. If your application proceeds past the initial step and you are shortlisted as a candidate for employment or engagement, further information may be collected by us:
(a) in answers given by you to questions at one or more interviews to be arranged with representatives of GME, with a view to assessing your suitability for the role or to provide the services required;
(b) to undertake pre-employment and pre-engagement checks which may include, but are not limited to:
(i) verification of identity (ID check);
(ii) evidence that you are legally entitled to work in Australia
(iii) a national police check;
(iv) vetting of your qualifications with your academic institution (e.g., degree or certifications);
(v) pre-employment medical assessments and questionnaires;
(c) to otherwise assess your application and for the purposes of the recruitment process, such as:
(i) the names and contact details of your referees, for the purpose of reference checks of you being undertaken with those referees, and information about you from referees;
(ii) information from other screening that we consider necessary to assess your suitability for the role or to provide the services, which may include such things as you participating in aptitude testing (such as psychometric testing), or you undergoing a criminal history check; and
(iii) publicly available information, on, for example, LinkedIn or freely accessible social media.
Some of the information we may collect is likely to be considered personal information for the purposes of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Personal information means any information or an opinion about an identified individual or about an individual who is reasonably identifiable and includes sensitive information. Sensitive information means information or an opinion about an individual's racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, information about professional or trade association/organisation membership, sexual preferences, criminal record or health information.
Where possible, we will collect any personal information about you directly from you, however, where that is not reasonable or it is otherwise impracticable, we may need to collect that personal information from third parties, such as any recruitment agency you engage with in respect of the application, your referees, and those co-ordinating or implementing any candidate screening of you which we may require.
The purpose of collecting any personal information is for our legitimate business interests in performing the screening to evaluate you as a potential job candidate however, GME may also use the personal information for a secondary purpose (such as to comply with its regulatory and legal obligations, for statistical reporting purposes, for on-boarding if you are successful in your application, and to inform you about future job opportunities with it if you are not successful in this application), or otherwise with your consent or as permitted by law.
If personal information is not collected, we may not be able to process your application for employment or engagement with us.
We may disclose or share the personal information collected with our employees (as well as relevant employees within the GME group of companies) who require access to it to be able to perform their duties and responsibilities, as well as with third parties who have a legitimate purpose for accessing it for the purposes outlined in this notice (such as recruitment agencies, screening or background check organisations engaged by us or your referees). Otherwise, we may disclose or share your personal information as required by law, or with your consent.
GME operates at a global level (in Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America and China) and, as a result, we may need to transfer personal information to other GME companies or third-party service providers located in countries other than the ones in which your personal information was originally collected. For example, we may need to transfer personal information to other countries for assessment purposes or other services related to the recruitment process. In such case, we will implement appropriate safeguards to ensure that an adequate level of protection for any personal information transferred.
To protect your personal information, we have implemented appropriate technical measures including but not limited to access authorisation, authentications, firewalls, anti-virus measures, back-up, and disaster recovery plans, which are designed to provide a level of security appropriate to the risk of processing your personal information.
If you are successful in the recruitment process, we will retain your personal information for the period prescribed in our Workplace Privacy Policy.
If you are unsuccessful in the recruitment process, we will retain your personal information for a maximum period of 2 years after the end of the recruitment process, in order to be able to contact you if a future position matches your profile, after which time we will delete or anonymise your personal information, or if this is not possible (for example, because the personal Information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store the personal information and refrain from any further processing activity.

The GME Privacy Policies also include information about how you may make a complaint about how your personal information has been handled or how you may access or seek correction of your personal information. By applying for a job with us, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information for the reasons, and in the manner, set out in this notice, and in accordance with the terms of the GME Privacy Policies.
